About Receipt Maker
Receipt Maker creates a simple proof-of-payment record after money has changed hands. It is intentionally different from an invoice generator: an invoice asks a customer to pay, while this tool only produces a receipt when the entered paid amount covers the calculated total. Add the merchant name, payment date, receipt number, and each purchased item or service. Then enter any flat discount, percentage tax, tip, and amount tendered. The preview shows the total paid and any change due, giving a customer or a small business a readable record of an ordinary completed transaction. Everything is calculated and rendered in the current browser. Your merchant details, line items, prices, notes, and payment figures are not uploaded to Lizely.
Money calculations use integer minor units rather than floating-point totals. For currencies displayed with two decimal places, one major unit is converted to one hundred minor units before addition or subtraction. This means values such as 0.10 and 0.20 become 10 and 20, producing an exact 30-minor-unit result instead of exposing a binary floating-point tail. Each unit price accepts no more than two decimal places, and each quantity accepts up to three. A line amount is rounded to the nearest minor unit only after multiplying the validated quantity by the integer unit price. The tool rejects blank, negative, non-finite, malformed, or excessive values instead of silently replacing them with zero. It also limits one receipt to 100 line items and reports totals that exceed its supported amount range.
The calculation order is explicit. First, all validated line amounts are added to form the subtotal. A flat discount is subtracted from that subtotal and cannot exceed it. The entered tax percentage is then applied to the discounted subtotal, with the result rounded to the nearest minor unit. A flat tip is added after tax. The final total therefore equals discounted subtotal plus tax plus tip. Tax treatment varies by location and transaction, so you must enter a rate appropriate for your own situation and confirm whether this calculation order matches your requirements. The tool does not contain tax tables, product exemptions, rounding mandates, invoice numbering rules, or jurisdiction-specific compliance logic.
To preserve the meaning of a receipt, generation stops when the paid amount is less than the total. When the amount tendered is equal to the total, change is zero. When it is higher, the difference is displayed as change. This guard prevents an unpaid or partially paid request from being labeled as a paid receipt. If you need to request payment, set a due date, or show an outstanding balance, use Invoice Generator instead. If you need to record a partial payment, use bookkeeping software that supports payment allocation and an audit trail. Receipt Maker focuses on one completed payment and does not maintain customer accounts, sequential ledgers, inventory, refunds, voids, or payment processor records.
After generation, inspect every line and total in the preview. Use Print receipt to open the browser print dialog, where you can print paper or save a PDF if that option is provided by your system. Use Download HTML to save a standalone receipt file that can be reopened in an ordinary browser and printed later. The downloaded file contains the validated values visible in the preview and includes a compliance disclaimer. Changing any field clears the last generated result, so an old receipt cannot be mistaken for output based on new inputs. Create a fresh receipt after each edit and compare it with the original payment evidence before giving it to another person.
This is a general-purpose convenience tool, not an accounting system or a compliance service. It does not authenticate the merchant, confirm that a card or cash payment occurred, apply official tax rules, create a tamper-evident signature, generate a fiscal receipt, or archive records. A downloaded or printed page can be edited, so it should not be treated as independent proof against fraud. Keep the authoritative payment processor record, cash register journal, bank entry, signed agreement, or other source document required for the transaction. Consult a qualified professional or the relevant authority when a receipt must satisfy legal, tax, warranty, reimbursement, insurance, or regulated recordkeeping requirements.
Methodology & sources
Monetary inputs with at most two decimals are converted to integer minor units. Each line is the rounded product of integer unit price and a validated quantity of up to three decimals. The flat discount is subtracted from subtotal, percentage tax is rounded on the discounted subtotal, and the flat tip is added. Generation requires paid amount greater than or equal to total; change equals paid amount minus total.
Frequently asked questions
- How is a receipt different from an invoice?
- A receipt records a completed payment. This tool refuses to generate a paid receipt when the entered paid amount is below the calculated total; use Invoice Generator when requesting payment.
- How does the tool avoid 0.1 plus 0.2 rounding errors?
- It converts two-decimal monetary inputs to integer minor units before calculating totals, then formats those integers for display.
- Are my receipt details uploaded?
- No. Calculation, preview, printing, and HTML creation happen locally in the current browser.
- Does this receipt meet tax or legal requirements?
- Not necessarily. The tool contains no jurisdiction-specific tax, fiscal receipt, numbering, signature, or retention rules. Confirm the requirements that apply to your transaction.
- What calculation order does it use?
- It subtracts the flat discount from the subtotal, applies the entered tax rate to that discounted amount, and then adds the flat tip.
