About Screen Light for Video Calls
Screen Light for Video Calls turns part of the browser into a large, even color panel that can add gentle front light near a webcam. Choose neutral white, warm, soft blue, or any custom color, then adjust the visual brightness from one to one hundred percent. The light panel can expand to full screen when the browser allows it, giving a larger illuminated area without installing an application or granting camera access.
The brightness control belongs only to the page. It darkens the selected color with a transparent black overlay and does not change the operating system's backlight, monitor controls, exposure, or actual light output in lux. The same on-page percentage can look very different on two displays because of hardware brightness, panel size, color calibration, ambient light, and distance from the subject. Preset labels describe the visible tint rather than a measured Kelvin color temperature.
For a video call, place the browser window near and slightly above the camera, choose a comfortable tint, and start at a low visual level. Increase it only until the face looks clearer without causing squinting or harsh reflections. A white wall or sheet outside the frame can soften the effect further. Press Escape to leave full-screen mode. The page does not use the webcam, microphone, ambient-light sensor, or personal data.
A screen is a modest close-range fill light, not a replacement for a calibrated lamp, flash, medical light, or professional studio setup. Keep a comfortable viewing distance, avoid staring directly at a bright panel in a dark room, and lower either the page level or hardware brightness if the display feels uncomfortable. Color and brightness settings stay only in the current browser state.
Methodology & sources
The selected six-digit color fills a responsive 16:9 panel. Visual brightness is represented by a bounded black overlay whose opacity is 1 minus the selected percentage; full-screen mode is requested only after an explicit user click.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this change my monitor's hardware brightness?
- No. It only changes the color and dark overlay inside the browser light panel.
- Does the page use my camera or ambient-light sensor?
- No. It requests neither camera, microphone, nor light-sensor access.
- Why does the same setting look different on another screen?
- Actual light output depends on display hardware, system brightness, panel size, calibration, distance, and the surrounding room.
