About Flanker Test

Flanker Test is a short centre-arrow challenge. Every row shows five arrows, but only the outlined arrow in the middle is the answer. Sometimes the surrounding arrows point in the same direction as the centre arrow. Sometimes they point in the other direction. The page calls those two groups matching and conflicting rows. Its route is fixed at twelve product-authored rows: six matching and six conflicting. That structure makes the final display easy to describe. It is a comparison inside this one browser game, not a hidden calculation about you.

Start the route when you are ready to keep the tab visible. A five-arrow row appears with the centre arrow outlined. Choose Left or Right with the large labelled buttons, or use the Left and Right Arrow keys as an optional shortcut. The game accepts one response for the visible row and immediately advances to the next row. A repeated key event or an extra click cannot add another response to the same displayed row. The answer is determined by the centre arrow alone; surrounding arrows are context for the game, never a second rule that you must infer.

After the twelfth response, the result panel reports accuracy and two browser-game averages: the average response time on matching rows and the average on conflicting rows. It also reports an interference index, defined plainly as the conflicting average minus the matching average from this fixed route. A positive or negative number is not ranked against another player, age range, classroom, workplace, clinical sample, or published reference. Accuracy remains visible because a faster route with more incorrect selections is not automatically presented as better. The values describe what happened in this session on this device.

Browser timing needs one practical safeguard. If the page becomes hidden, the current row pauses instead of accepting a hidden-tab response. When you return, press Resume this row to begin a new visible response interval for that same row. That prevents time spent on another app, a notification, or a call from being included in the next displayed interval. It does not make the game a standardised timer or a precise instrument; it only makes the simple local result less confusing. Restart returns to the beginning of the same fixed route.

The game runs entirely in your browser and does not ask for an account, profile, name, camera, microphone, or upload. The shared game shell may keep a local best score in browser storage, but it is not an online leaderboard and is not sent to Lizely. Screen size, input method, browser scheduling, interruptions, familiarity with the route, and ordinary day-to-day variation can all affect a game session. Treat the figures as transparent feedback from one round of play, not as a claim of personal ability.
