About Mars Sign Calculator
Mars Sign Calculator converts a local calendar date, clock time, and documented UTC or UTC-equivalent offset into one proleptic UTC-like instant. It then calculates Mars's apparent geocentric true-ecliptic-of-date longitude and maps that angle to a disclosed Western tropical sector. The result preserves the entered local convention, shows the normalized calculation instant, reports the longitude and degree within the sector, and warns near a boundary. No birthplace, coordinates, GPS, account, upload, or runtime network call is required.
The scope is deliberately narrower than a natal chart. Geocentric means the observer origin is the center of Earth. Location is therefore not an input to this position. The calculator does not derive an Ascendant, houses, aspects, returns, or a topocentric sky position. A date and wall-clock time still do not identify a unique instant, so the visitor must supply the documented numeric offset for that place and moment instead of relying on the browser's current zone.
Before standard time zones, local mean time may not map to a reliable modern UTC offset. Early-date results should therefore be treated as proleptic UTC-like estimates based on the convention entered. The interface accepts signed offsets from -12:00 through +14:00, including non-whole-hour values, and rejects impossible Gregorian dates, clocks, offsets, or normalized instants outside 1700 through 2100. It never attempts to reconstruct historical political time-zone rules.
The coordinate contract is apparent Earth-center true ecliptic of date. The offline adapter obtains Mars's aberration-corrected geocentric vector and converts it to ecliptic longitude. Lizely normalizes the result to zero through less than 360 degrees. The product display then divides the circle into twelve equal half-open 30-degree sectors: Aries begins at zero, Taurus at 30, and the sequence continues through Pisces beginning at 330. These names are a Western tropical cultural convention, not IAU constellation boundaries or scientific behavior categories.
Eight literal fixtures cover the 1700 and 2100 limits plus both sides of the 270, 300, and 330 degree boundaries. NASA JPL Horizons supplies primary apparent observer-centered ecliptic-of-date longitudes from Earth center. IMCCE Miriade with INPOP supplies an independent official cross-check. The pinned Astronomy Engine 2.1.19 implementation must remain within 0.005 degrees of both sources for every case. JPL and IMCCE are research and test sources only; the browser does not call them.
A computed position within 0.05 degrees of a sector edge receives a warning because an uncertain recorded time, an incorrect offset, or a different ephemeris convention may change the displayed cultural label. The page does not claim second-level or professional-observatory accuracy and is unsuitable for navigation, safety, scientific measurement, or time-critical decisions.
