About Retrograde Planets Tracker

Retrograde Planets Tracker keeps the entire calculation inside the visitor's browser. It classifies Mercury through Pluto by whether apparent geocentric ecliptic longitude decreases, increases, or barely moves over a short probe. The workflow starts from a documented local date, clock time, and explicit UTC or UTC-equivalent offset, converts those fields into one proleptic UTC-like instant, and then runs the pinned Astronomy Engine 2.1.19 adapter without uploading anything or opening a runtime network socket.

Geocentric means the observer origin is the center of Earth. Geographic latitude, longitude, elevation, GPS, or IP-based location are therefore not inputs to this longitude. The calculator also refuses to invent an Ascendant, house cusps, aspects, midpoints, or a topocentric sky position, because those products need a place and a different geometric contract.

A wall-clock time still does not identify one instant without the documented numeric offset for that place and date. The form therefore requires an explicit signed offset from -12:00 through +14:00, including non-whole-hour values, and it rejects impossible Gregorian dates, impossible clocks, malformed offsets, and normalized instants outside the supported UTC years 1700 through 2100.

Before modern standard time zones, local mean time may not map cleanly onto a present-day UTC offset. Early-date results must be read as proleptic UTC-like estimates based on the convention the visitor typed. The ephemeris contract is apparent Earth-center true ecliptic of date. Expected comparison values in the evidence package were authored from NASA JPL Horizons observer quantity 31 and independently from IMCCE Miriade using the INPOP theory. Astronomy Engine is only the offline implementation under test, never the expected-data source. Circular differences larger than five thousandths of a degree fail the dual-official gate.

Tropical display labels divide three hundred sixty degrees into twelve equal half-open thirty-degree sectors beginning with Aries at zero. Those names are a Western tropical cultural convention, not IAU constellation outlines. Near a sector boundary, a tiny change in time, offset, or ephemeris can change the printed label, so the sign calculator warns inside five hundredths of a degree of an edge.
