About Year Progress Tracker
Year Progress Tracker shows how far the current year has advanced according to this device's local clock and time-zone rules. It displays the year, a percentage to six decimal places, a progress bar, elapsed whole 24-hour periods, and a ceiling for remaining 24-hour periods. The page updates after loading and once per minute. No date entry is required because the current Date value and local year boundaries define the calculation.
The start boundary is local midnight at January 1 of the current local year. The end boundary is local midnight at January 1 of the next year. Elapsed milliseconds are the current timestamp minus the start, clamped so the displayed percentage cannot fall below zero or above one hundred. Percentage is elapsed divided by the full boundary interval and multiplied by one hundred. The progress bar uses the same unrounded value while the visible label uses six decimals.
Elapsed whole days are floor(elapsed milliseconds divided by 86,400,000). Remaining days are ceil(remaining milliseconds divided by the same 24-hour constant). These are duration summaries, not a count of crossed local date labels. In time zones with daylight-saving changes, a local calendar day can contain 23 or 25 hours, so duration-based day numbers can differ from a manual inclusive or exclusive calendar-date count. The page discloses that distinction instead of hiding it.
Leap years are handled by the platform's Date construction for January boundaries rather than an embedded year table. The pure interval tests also include a 366-day span with exact zero, fifty, and one-hundred percent checkpoints. The widget does not embed holiday lists, workdays, school terms, fiscal calendars, religious calendars, ISO week schedules, or jurisdiction-specific rules. It tracks one civil year boundary in the device's configured local zone.
If the displayed year or progress is wrong, first check the operating system's date, time, automatic synchronization, and time zone. A manually incorrect clock, suspended device, virtual machine, remote browser, privacy tool, or changed zone can alter the result. The page does not contact a network time server, compare official time sources, correct drift, or certify legal time. Refreshing after a major settings change may be appropriate.
A year percentage can be useful as a neutral planning reference, journal prompt, dashboard element, or pacing indicator. It is not evidence that personal, financial, health, educational, or business goals should be the same percentage complete. Many projects start later, have uneven workload, depend on seasons, or use fiscal periods. The page applies no performance judgment, deadline advice, motivational pressure, or prediction to the number.
The six-decimal label provides smooth visible change without claiming measurement beyond the device clock. The one-minute update interval avoids unnecessary high-frequency work while keeping the display current enough for a year-scale ratio. The browser can throttle background timers, so a hidden tab may update only after it becomes active or the page is refreshed. The next calculation always uses a new Date rather than incrementing a potentially stale counter.
All calculation occurs locally. The widget does not save history, goals, dates, location, time zone, or progress to a server, and it has no account or notification. Its contract is narrow: derive ordered local year boundaries, clamp the current timestamp, compute a transparent interval ratio and duration summaries, update periodically, and clearly separate clock-derived year progress from calendar planning or personal assessment.

Construct local Date boundaries at January 1 midnight for the current and next year. Clamp now to that ordered interval, calculate percent as elapsed/totalΓ100, elapsedDays as floor(elapsed/86,400,000), and remainingDays as ceil(remaining/86,400,000). Recalculate from a fresh Date every minute. Pure tests assert exact 0/50/100 percent over a 366-day interval, elapsed days, before/after clamping, and invalid boundary rejection.
