Word Wipe
Swipe connected letters, wipe complete rows, and race a real 60-second clock in a compact free word game.

How to use
- 1.Start at any occupied letter, then drag or click through orthogonally adjacent cells. Diagonal jumps and repeated cells are rejected without changing the selected path.
- 2.Release a real swipe or press Submit word to check the selected letters. An accepted word removes those cells; a completely empty row disappears and the rows above fall downward.
- 3.Clear five words before the real 60-second timer reaches zero. Each word is worth 200 points, for an exact perfect score of 1,000; Restart restores the board and full minute.
About Word Wipe
Word Wipe is a fast, focused word-grid game built around a simple physical idea: connect neighboring letters, submit a real English word, and remove the cells you used. When every cell in a row is gone, that row disappears and every occupied row above it falls toward the bottom. The movement matters. A word that began on one set of coordinates can occupy a different row after the first successful wipe, so each play must follow the board you can see now rather than a memorized screen position.
This edition uses one continuous five-row board and a genuine 60-second countdown. Each accepted six-letter word earns 200 points. Clearing all five rows produces the exact maximum score of 1,000. The timer freezes the board at zero, a completed run cannot be altered, and Restart restores the original board with a fresh minute. Two different invalid paths also close the run, while resubmitting exactly the same wrong path is deduplicated instead of unfairly consuming another miss.
The controls are designed for mouse, touch, and keyboard play. Drag across orthogonally adjacent cells for the quickest route on a pointer or touchscreen. A continuous swipe submits when released. For a deliberate fallback, click cells one by one and choose Submit word. Keyboard players can move the visible cursor with the arrow keys, add the current letter with Space, submit with Enter, and clear the current path with Backspace or Delete. Diagonal jumps, repeated cells, empty cells, and out-of-range moves never change the game state.
Unlike a hidden-word list puzzle, this game does not publish its remaining answers or future routes in the page, accessibility labels, hidden fields, or data attributes. The ledger records only words you have already found. That keeps discovery meaningful while still providing clear feedback after a successful wipe. The accepted vocabulary for this fixed board was checked against the official Princeton WordNet 3.1 dictionary data and independently cross-checked with Cambridge Dictionary entries.
A useful strategy is to read the lowest occupied row first, because a complete row wipe immediately changes the vertical position of everything above it. Build a clean horizontal path, check the selected-letter preview, then submit. After the fall animation state is reflected in the grid, scan the new bottom row again rather than reaching for the old coordinates. The five-row format makes the rule easy to learn, while the clock and gravity make accurate input more important than random guessing.
Word Wipe runs entirely in your browser. No typed letters, paths, scores, or game state are uploaded for processing. There is no account requirement, paywall, or server-side word request. The fixed board loads immediately and works well as a short vocabulary break, a keyboard navigation exercise, or a compact reasoning game. If the clock or two-miss rule ends a run, Restart is always available and returns both the board and timer to their original state.
The fixed layout is deliberately deterministic, so every restart presents the same fair reasoning task. After each successful submission, pause long enough to read the newly settled bottom line before starting another gesture. This prevents an old screen position from being mistaken for the current route. The visible selection preview and clear control also make it easy to correct a partial gesture without spending a miss.
Methodology & sources
The game uses a fixed 5-by-6 board with five unique six-letter nouns. Validity is limited to this audited board lexicon: exact entries were verified in the official Princeton WordNet 3.1 dict/index.noun file and independently cross-checked on Cambridge Dictionary. A private test oracle specifies the literal starting board, expected word order, coordinate shift after gravity, five board snapshots, 200-point increments, exact 1,000-point completion, 60-second deadline behavior, wrong-signature deduplication, two-error deadlock, and atomic invalid-input guards. Runtime validation does not derive its expected results from the test oracle. Independent exhaustive path enumeration verifies that, on the initial board and after every gravity step, each remaining accepted entry has exactly one non-repeating orthogonal route and that route clears all six cells of one row.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I play Word Wipe with a mouse or touchscreen?
- Press an occupied cell and drag continuously through orthogonally adjacent letters. Release to submit the connected word. You may also tap or click letters one at a time, review the selected-letter preview, and use the Submit word button.
- What happens when I clear a full row?
- Every selected cell is removed. If that leaves an entire row empty, the row is wiped and all occupied rows above it compress downward. The next word may therefore appear at different grid coordinates even though the same board continues.
- Does Word Wipe reveal the answers or upload my play?
- No. Future accepted words and routes are not included in visible or hidden page markup. Only words already found appear in the ledger, and all board, timer, scoring, and validation logic runs locally in your browser.
