About Gematria Calculator

Gematria Calculator computes the standard Hebrew numerical method commonly called mispar hechrechi. It assigns a declared value to each of the 22 Hebrew letters: Aleph through Tet use 1 through 9, Yod through Tsadi use 10 through 90, and Qof, Resh, Shin, and Tav use 100, 200, 300, and 400. The entire mapping is fixed in the logic and independently repeated in the test oracle.

Five letters have special forms when they appear at the end of a word. This calculator normalizes final Kaf ך to Kaf כ and scores 20, final Mem ם to Mem מ and scores 40, final Nun ן to Nun נ and scores 50, final Pe ף to Pe פ and scores 80, and final Tsadi ץ to Tsadi צ and scores 90. That is the standard-value convention documented here. A different method called mispar gadol may assign 500 through 900 to those final forms; this calculator does not silently mix that variant into its result.

After calculation, every recognized character appears in order with its base letter and value. Final forms display their normalization explicitly, and an addition expression shows how the total was formed. For example, חי is 8 plus 10 for 18, תורה is 400 plus 6 plus 200 plus 5 for 611, and שלום is 300 plus 30 plus 6 plus the base value 40 for final Mem, totaling 376. These examples and six more literal phrases are locked as independent goldens.

Hebrew vowel points and cantillation marks do not receive numeric values. The input is normalized with Unicode NFKD, Hebrew combining marks are ignored, and whitespace and punctuation are ignored. Unsupported letters from other scripts are not transliterated or assigned invented values. The result reports how many unsupported characters were ignored so the scope stays visible. Input with no recognized Hebrew letter produces an error instead of a misleading zero.

The input limit is 240 Unicode code points. This keeps the visible work list manageable without altering the mathematics for ordinary words and short phrases. Reset removes the input, result, and any validation message. The calculator has no name database, transliteration service, AI interpretation, or network fallback.

Gematria has historical, linguistic, and interpretive uses, but an arithmetic total does not scientifically reveal a personality, prove a relationship, diagnose health, forecast money, or predict an event. This page gives the declared calculation only. It does not attach spiritual messages, rank phrases as lucky, or recommend a medical, legal, financial, safety, or relationship decision.

All processing stays in the current browser tab. The component contains no fetch request, upload, analytics request, localStorage write, sessionStorage write, or account gate. Text remains visible to someone looking at or controlling the device, so local processing is a data-minimization promise rather than protection from the device owner.

The Hebrew textarea uses right-to-left direction while labels, method notes, and work explanations remain readable in English. Controls have at least a 44-pixel target, long work expressions wrap on narrow screens, and each value is conveyed with text rather than color alone. Methodology & sources

Normalize input with Unicode NFKD, ignore Hebrew combining marks, whitespace, and punctuation, and score only the declared Hebrew alphabet. Use standard mispar hechrechi values 1–400; normalize ך, ם, ן, ף, and ץ to the base values 20, 40, 50, 80, and 90. Return an exact ordered work list and sum, report unsupported characters, reject input without a supported Hebrew letter, and never transliterate, interpret, persist, or transmit text.
