Worked example. Born May 15, checking Personal Day for August 22, 2024. Birth month is 5; birth day 15 has digits 1 and 5; target year 2024 has digits 2, 0, 2, and 4. The Personal Year subtotal is 5 plus 1 plus 5 plus 2 plus 0 plus 2 plus 4, which equals 19. Reducing 19 gives 1 plus 9 equals 10, and reducing 10 gives 1 plus 0 equals 1. The Personal Year is 1. Adding the target month 8 gives 1 plus 8 equals 9, already a single digit, so the Personal Month is 9. Adding the target day 22 gives 9 plus 22 equals 31, and 3 plus 1 equals 4.
