The text is not random gibberish. Its roots trace back to a real work of Latin literature: Cicero's philosophical treatise "De finibus bonorum et malorum" ("On the Ends of Good and Evil"), written in 45 BC. A passage beginning "Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet…" was scrambled centuries ago into the pseudo-Latin we know today. The familiar opening "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit" is itself a garbled fragment of that original — "Lorem" is a truncated form of the Latin "dolorem" (pain).
